07.07.05 Russians Arkaev/Barsouk left the court with the CubansThe Russian pair Roman Arkaev/Dmitri Barsouk that upset the Austrian duet Nowotny/Gartmayer in the first-round Main Draw of SWATCH-FIVB World Tour 2005 faced the Cuban tandem Francisco Alvarezj/Bernar Ramirez.
The very beginning was fairly encouraging for the Russian spectators: in the first set Roman Arkaev/Dmitri Barsouk were leading, but finally came off second-best 20-22. During the second set the Cubans were more active and took over the game. Nevertheless, the Russians managed to overhaul and even take over the set, but soon a few precise attacks from the opposite court proved the perfect mastery of players from the Island of Freedom. And in the end the Cuban duet posted the set 21-18. After the game Dmitri Barsouk admitted that he made a number of disappointing mistakes. The Russian pair will stay in the tournament in the Loosers bracket. They still have chances to win but posting more matches than Winners.
